Assessment
(a) Teacher Assessment
Children’s development is continually assessed. This is carried out in a variety of ways - by listening, talking, observing and marking work produced. We use these assessments to consider a child’s needs and to plan future work. “Baseline” assessments of Year 3 pupils are carried out shortly after admission.
(b) Assessment by Test at Key Stage 2
All pupils are given standardised tests annually, usually in May. It is no longer a Government requirement to formally assess pupils at the end of Key Stage 2 ie in the school year when pupils are 11 years old. However, we still test pupils in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.
The end of Key Stage assessments are now made through a combination of on- going teacher assessments and the school’s own tests (made up of past SAT papers). The results of the teacher assessments are reported to parents in July.
Record Keeping
All staff keep careful records of each child’s progress. Individual children have a Record of Personal Achievement which is passed on to the Comprehensive School.
